Server Update – Tuesday, May 29th

As many of you are aware the SafeAdZone – Quik Family Sites have been down since Thursday last week.

We have worked diligently to rectify the situation as Allan notes in greater detail in his blog post here

Over the next 48 Hours we expect to make significant progress and will provide our members an update at 9:30 p.m. U.S. Eastern Time on Thursday, May 31st in the SAZ-Quik Family Conference Room (Username: Firstname-LastName; Password: multiplestreams)

In the meantime we encourage you to pause or disable advertising for the Quik Family programs as we don’t want you to waste valuable resources. Plus, you should note that ShortQUIK is not currently operational either so you want to stop using those links for the time being.

The technical details

On May 23rd our server experienced an issue which facilitated a server reboot. Prior to this, the server had been operating fairly smoothly for nearly 250 days without requiring a reboot.

Following this reboot it became apparent that a hard drive issue had arisen and request for this to be investigated was placed with the server management people. (For those are unaware, most hosting companies have their servers hosted in remote data-centers and never physically have access to them. This requires a maintenance level which is undertaken by data-center staff)

This request was not fully investigated, despite repeated requests, for several days. During this period server performance (as you had probably noticed) was extremely poor.

On May 25th the server was rebooted by the DC at which point the drives failed completely.

We are currently going to great expense to have these drives examined in the hope of recovering data, but this is looking unlikely to be successful.

Although backups had been undertaken on a daily basis (perhaps you had noticed a decrease in site performance around the midnight server time period), these backups were only being stored on the server and offsite copies were either not being completed successfully or were corrupt.
